
Parts Work
Parts work, or Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) is a tool that sees the nature of our mind as subdivided into parts. In a sense, all of us are no different than people who are diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), but their parts just got more disintegrated than others. Our protective and wounded parts all offer valuable talents and resources to our system. As we move through life our parts may get frozen in time, believing they must continue taking roles that helped us survive difficult experiences. However, those roles are almost always disruptive or damaging in our current circumstances.
It is important for us to make the distinction between your parts’ intentions and the roles they feel burdened by. Our goal is not to exile any of your parts, but to help unburden them so they can transform back into their natural, valuable states. You do not have to be at war with yourself. In our work together, I’ll help guide you to get in tune with “The Self” and hold space for all parts of you with compassion. All of you makes sense!
