Relationship Therapy
In relationships, couples often encounter challenges such as communication breakdowns, unmet emotional needs, and differing expectations. These struggles can lead to feelings of disconnect, frustration, and conflict. Misunderstandings and unspoken resentments may build up over time, making it difficult for partners to navigate their issues effectively. Addressing these challenges requires open dialogue, empathy, and a willingness to understand each other's perspectives. By working through these difficulties together, couples can strengthen their connection and foster a more fulfilling and resilient partnership.
I offer an affirming, compassionate and culturally sensitive approach to relationship therapy for queer and trans people of color. By acknowledging and exploring the unique challenges and systemic barriers that these populations may face, I provide a safe space to explore how these issues may be present in and inform relationships.
My work is grounded in the following values and practices:
Cultural Sensitivity: My professional and personal experience helps me understand and respect cultural backgrounds. I work collaboratively with clients to incorporate cultural values and perspectives into the therapeutic process.
Addressing Intergenerational Trauma: Many people of color experience intergenerational trauma and stress related to historical and ongoing discrimination. I help in processing these experiences and finding ways to heal and strengthen familial and social bonds.
Enhancing Communication: Together we will focus on improving communication and emotional expression. For individuals from cultures where discussing emotions may be less common, I provide tools and techniques to facilitate open and supportive dialogues.
Affirming Identity: I am committed to affirming and validating LGBTQ identities. This affirmation is crucial for clients who may have faced challenges related to acceptance and understanding within their personal and social environments.
Navigating Relationship Dynamics: LGBTQ individuals and couples may face unique challenges related to societal expectations, stigma, and relationship dynamics. I help in addressing these challenges by focusing on emotional needs and fostering mutual support.
